a quick hello from a newbie

topic posted Thu, August 30, 2007 - 6:38 PM by  Colin
Just wanted to say quick hello to the group. My camera of choice right now is a Pentax Auto 110, having come across one late last year. I haven't started rolling or developing my own film yet, but I'm sure that's coming. As soon as I manage to get some scans done, I'll try and post a few. I do have to say, I really do love my little Pentax-even if it is an automatic :-D

Hey Colin. Thanks for joining us. Not a lot of activity here lately, so feel free to post some pix and make some comments.

Thanks :-) I noticed the last postings involving my camera were a couple of years ago. I would have replied, but I didn't want to get busted for "necroposting" (a newbie mistake I made on DeviantArt once, and I got a good snarky spanking from sarcastic teen for it.) It's been a real ball buster to get my 110 shots scanned, however. But still I persist. Not that they are God's gift to color photography-I'm mostly just screwing around with it to see what it's capable of doing, and getting used to the format again.

In this case, Colin, anything to revive this moribund lot would be a great thing.

Seriously, I love necroposting when it is about things I care about.

Sometimes communities do pick up on threads that went dead earlier.

It frequently happens at Loopers Delight (the huge million plus hits a month mecca of the live looping world).

I, personally, would love to read of your experiments.

I, for what it's worth, have new toy videos up at
        www.youtube.com/looppool

This is a bit off topic except that we are all using antiquated technologies.

thanks man :-) I will try and check out your vids when I'm stealing a better wireless signal ***chuckle***. No worries about whether or not your posts are germane. To be perfectly honest, the Pentax Auto 110 is not, strictly a toy, per se. It's a fairly sophisticated piece of photographic equipment. However, it's hamstrung by two rather large issues. One, it's automatic with only two ISO settings (one of which is for films that aren't even made in 110 format anymore), which can be a big problem on its own. Then there's two, the film format that it requires, which is rapidly careening into obsolescence-and one which I can see would fall squarely into the "toy" category. However, as late to the game as I am, I totally am game to explore and really see what this little camera can do. Right now, I'm just experimenting with what films are currently available, which right now happens to be 200 and 400 speed color. Since I don't have my own scanner, I'm shopping around for a place that will do it for me. But I promise, I'll do my best to get those @#$ scans done. My next step with my little camera, I plan on attempting to roll my own cartridges, which is what many 110 aficionados do. Also, if I can do that with B&W, I'd love to try and develop and print on my own. I don't know about others on this list, but I gotta say, when I get my prints back from the lab, it seems that my prints are done fairly indifferently on crap paper, and with no chance of having them scanned onto a cd as well. Anyway, thanks for the welcome...I'll post more later :-)
